Are corduroy pants evil?

I can still hear the swish swish swish from grade school.  EVERYONE knew you were coming down the hall when your mother made you wear your corduroy pants!

But now I'm seeing wider and softer wales out there pants that are cut more like jeans/trousers.  Part of me wants to try them; part of me says run and hide.

Are they still evil?  Should I just purge the thought of trying them?  Maybe a corduroy jacket instead?

I have a couple of pairs of cordoroy pants and I lurve them. To be honest, I haven't noticed the swishing sound - I forgot all about that!! Mine are, like you said, cut like jeans. They are very comfy and a nice fall/winter staple for me.

Mind don't make any noise! I've never even heard of that.

I have four pairs and they're all pretty much the same pair of pants: super fine wale (almost can't see that they're chords till you're right up on them), super skinny cut (lets be honest; they're skin tight.)

They're 5 pocket like jeans. I have them in black; pale tan/ecru/I don't know its very light and neutral; baby pink!!!!, and sky blue.

This year I have been wearing them tucked into knee high riding boots.  I have only worn the pink and beige (I seem to momentarily have blanked on that word above...). I wear black/white/grey on top.

Personally, I would wear corduroy pants before a jacket. J,.Crew makes some really fine whaled cords that are super soft. I think they're totally fine.

They're definitely not as stiff and swishy as they used to be. Fine-wale that's almost like velvet is best, but I can take 'em or leave 'em as a general rule. I'm not a huge fan of cords because they usually make me think preppy/collegiate.

I have a gray corduroy blazer that I like. It's good with jeans but for some reason I don't wear it that often, maybe because I have another gray blazer I like more.

I completely missed the jacket question. I don't like corduroy jackets; they're a bit crunchy for my personal style.  But I imagine they might look nice in some situations.

I have 3 pair from J Crew. They're some of my favorite chords. My other pair are from AG. Then there is an old Max Studio pair that I've semi-retired.

i'm always in search of great cords.  i like that they are rugged like jeans but more put together for work.  i used to work at a school where i couldn't wear jeans except on friday, so i was hunting for black bootcut cords.  never found 'em.

i hate that they tend to stretch out more than i'd like them to, and yes, i get the swish sound.  for those of you don't have noisy cords, is it perhaps that your inner thighs don't rub quite as much as mine?

Oh, I guess so. Mine don't touch when I walk. They don't touch...much.

J Crew makes boot cut chords; no to those? Gap; Old Navy; Ann Taylor; Max Studio; no luck?

Anyone who grew up in the 70's or early 80's remembers the swish sound of corduroy pants.  Gah... it was awful!  I had a pair that were a red-berry color that my mother paired with a plaid shirt and sweater.  Blackmail photos do exist...

I guess I'll pass on a corduroy jacket.  I've seen them around in all different styles and at all price points.  Maybe a nice boiled wool one will be better.

As far as pants, I'm in between two sizes right now, so finding a pair that fits is going to be a challenge.  Maybe I'll look at them a little more when the weather really starts cooling down.  Black bootcut cords DO sound nice!!

Thanks all.

But hell in 10 years I will be laughed at too.
